How-To Fix No Audio When Mouse Pointer Hovers Over Music File
If you hover or place your mouse pointer over a music file or sound file in Ubuntu MATE, it should play a preiew of the file without opening it. If your Ubuntu MATE system has stopped previewing music or sound files, then follow the steps below.
You must have gstreamer1.0-tools installed in order for ogg or mp3 files to produce sound when the mouse hovers over the file. If your file manager is open, please close it before you install GStreamer Tools.
How to Install GStreamer Tools:
1. Open the Terminal (Shortcut: Ctrl + Alt + T)
2. Type the following command: sudo apt-get install gstreamer1.0-tools
3. Press Enter or Return and type in your password
4. Press Enter when prompted
5. Type exit to close the Terminal

Now open the Caja File Manager and hover your mouse pointer over a sound file, music file, or mp3 file. It should now produce a sound preview.
