Hypnotix
Hypnotix is an IPTV streaming application with support for live TV, movies and series. It is developed and maintain by the Linux Mint team, but it can be installed on Ubuntu/Ubuntu derivatives.
Hypnotix allows you to watch all sorts of content from a variety of countries around the world. It supports IPTV providers using M3U URL, Xtream API or local M3U playlist. Hypnotix will work with IPTV-ORG (a free legally receivable IPTV channels as a .m3u file). You will have the ability to watch thousands on streaming TV channels. It's easy to use and navigate. By default, it is organized by countries and the different free streaming services from each county. Apsattv m3u playlists will work with Hypnotix.
How to Install Hypnotix
You can download the latest version of Hypnotix at http://packages.linuxmint.com/pool/main/h/hypnotix/
You will also need to download and install the latest version of circle-flags-svg.
Locate the .deb file and use your package installer to install it on your system. I am using GDebi to install .deb files on my system.
(sudo apt-get install gdebi)

Click the Install Package button when your Package Installer opens.
Enter your Password and then click the Authenticate button to start the installation process.
Wait until you see the Status: Same version is already installed before you close the Package Installer.
You should now see Hypnotix in your menu. I am using the traditional menu and the program name and icon was placed in the Sound & Video menu within the Applications menu.
When you open the program you will see three large icons and labels: TV Channels, Movies, and Series. You will also see a number next to each label to indicate how many channels, movies, or TV series make-up that category. I currently haven't added any movies or TV Series to the program so each of these categories have 0. You can see that there are 3483 streaming TV Channels in that category.
Clicking on the TV Channels icon will display a grid made up of a variety of countries. You will see a flag, Country and TV service name, and the number of streaming channels for that category.
You don't need a VPN to watch content from other countries. I live in the US and below is an example of of streaming MMA TV from the UK section. You can look in the title bar to remind you of the TV category or section you selected.
You can go back a screen by clicking the back arrow in the upper left corner. I then clicked on the UK PLUTO section and clicked on Glory Kickboxing to illustrate that it streams here in the US.
You can hover your mouse pointer over the streaming video to display the controls.
You can click the bubble with a number like 3/3 to change the audio track. If the number below is bold then you can click on it to enable/disable subtitles.
In the control panel you will see the name of the file that provides the streaming channel. Example, the playlist.m3u8 file. You can click the << double-left arrows to rewind a bit, press the || symbol to pause the streaming channel, and press the >> double-right arrows to advance the streaming video forward. However, you can only advance forward if you've moved back in time or paused the live stream. You can click the speaker icon to mute and unmute the volume. The square with the arrows doesn't do anything on my system, but they may increase the size of the video on your screen. Across the bottom of the control panel is a progress bar.
If you like the outdoors then you will enjoy watching the Outdoor Lifestyle channel within the US GINIKO section. They have a lot of shows about hunting and fishing.
If you like learning about Mexico and the Spanish culture then click on Miami TV within the USA LOCAL section.
There are a lot of news channels for someone who enjoys keeping up with the latest events happening locally, nationally, and/or globally.
In the upper right corner of the Hypnotix main screen, you will notice two small icons. The first icon is Providers and the second icon is Preferences.
Clicking the Providers icon will display your media playlist. Within this screen you can Edit your playlist or click the Remove button to remove your playlist. You can click the Add a new provider... button to add a link to a new streaming provider. You can click the Reset to defaults... button to restore the playlist providers back to the default settings.
Clicking the Edit button will allow you make changes to your playlist. You can give the playlist a new Name, change the Type (M3U URL, Local M3U File, or Xtream API), change the URL, and/or change the EPG (Electronic Program Guide).
At the top of the Edit Category screen is the title bar. On the left is the Back button and on the right is a Drop-Down Menu button (...), Minimize button, Maximize/Resize button, and Close button.
The Drop-Down Menu is made up of the Keyboard Shortcuts, About, and Quit commands.
Pressing Ctrl+K or clicking on Keyboard Shortcuts will bring up a Shortcuts dialog box. It will display the shortcuts that work with Hypnotix. Pressing F11/F will Toggle Fullscreen. This will allow you to use one of these keys to make the streaming TV full screen or click it again to go back to normal view.
Clicking the Back button at the top will take you back to the previous screen. If you have additional .m3u files or playlists, then click the Add a new provider... button at the bottom.
You will see an Edit Category screen that will allow you to create a new playlist.
The EPG will provide an Electronic Programming Guide for the desired M3U URL if it has one.
- Name: Language
- Type: M3U URL
- URL: https://iptv-org.github.io/iptv/index.language.m3u
- EPG: (Optional)
The EPG will provide an Electronic Programming Guide for the desired M3U URL if it has one.
The EPG or Electronic Programming Guide found in Pluto TV. Hypnotix has the ability to provide an EPG to a M3U URL if one is available.
You can now see the results of the new M3U URL I added. The streaming channels are now organized by Language.
You can click on the Providers button on your Home screen to display the streaming providers lists. Click on one of the long buttons to make it the active list.
Selecting one of the buttons from the list will automatically take you back to the Home screen. You will see the number of streaming channels next to TV Channels.
Linux allows you to customize your system, so you can create an Entertainment subfolder or submenu to keep your streaming TV and other multimedia software organized. I explain how to do this on my How To Create a Submenu in Ubuntu MATE section.
