If you use Compiz or recently installed it and notice that when a program is unresponsive for a few seconds the program turns gray. I just recently enabled Compiz and I started noticing that happening on the computers using Compiz.
If you noticed this problem too, then follow the steps below to fix this issue.
First, make sure that you have CompizConfig Settings Manager installed. If you do not then open your Terminal and enter the following.
sudo apt install compizconfig-settings-manager
Second, open the Control Center and scroll down to the Look and Feel group and click on CompizConfig Settings Manager.

When the CompizConfig Settings Manager opens, scroll down to the Effects category and uncheck Fading Windows or you can click onto Fading Windows and turn off the Dim Unresponsive Windows feature.
After you click on the Fading Windows icon it will open a new dialog box. You should see that Dim Unresponsive Windows is checked by default.
Uncheck Dim Unresponsive Windows and then click the Back button and exit out of the CompizConfig Settings Manager. Then close the Control Center.
If you notice it turning gray again, then reboot your system too see if it helps. If not, then go back into the CompizConfig Settings Manager and scroll down to the Effects category and uncheck Fading Windows
You may have to reboot for the new settings to take effect.
Your problem should now be gone from your system.
