One of the nice features of SMPlayer it its ability to send your video to your Chromecast device. If you own a Chromecast then you'll probably want to install SMPlayer so that you can play your video files from your computer to your TV. I have a Chromecast connected to the TV in my bedroom and SMPlayer makes it possible to send the video files on my computer to my TV. While the video starts playing, I click on the Play menu and highlight Cast to and then click on Chromecast. This brings up my Google Chrome Browser which displays the options for controlling the connection between SMPlayer and my Chromecast device.
I select the device name that I want to send the video (mine is named Bedroom). Then I click the button Play on Chromecast button. If my TV is turned on and my HDMI input set for my Chromecast device, then the video and audio will be played on my TV. I have the option to add subtitles in the browser.
An indicator bar will appear at the top of my browser to let me know that the video is being played on my TV. I can use this bar to adjust the volume, pause or resume the video, and move forward or backwards in the video. The image in my SMPlayer will appear to freeze, so you can minimize it and use the control buttons and bar in your browser to control what you see and hear on your TV.
The feature that allows you to play your videos to your TV makes SMPlayer a very popular multimedia player. Another feature that makes SMPlayer a popular multumedia player is the ability to create thumbnails of your video. While the video is up on your screen, click on the Video menu and then click on Thumbnail Generator...
A Thumbnail Generator dialog box will pop up which will allow you to select the number of images in each column and row. You have the option to Add playing time to thumbnails and several other options.
Bt default, it will create four images across and four images down. You have the choice to Save your thumbnails in a folder or Close the thumbnails.
SMPlayer has the ability to play ad free YouTube videos and it allows you to search for your favorite videos on YouTube. Click on the View menu in SMPlayer and click on the YouTube browser. SMTube can also be accessed in the Sound & Video menu.
The SMTube dialog box will appear it it will allow you to watch videos from YouTube.
