You can access the program in your menu after you get the program installed. I am using Ubuntu MATE 18.04 LTS with the traditional menu, so I access it by clicking on the Applications menu, highlight Sound & Video, and then click on Sayonara Player.
When it first loads, it is ready for you to add your musc. You can click the hamburger icon to the right of Directory to help you locate your music or albums.
A Directory dialog box will appear to allow you to locate your music. Select the directory or folder that contains your music and click the Open button.
You will then see the path to your music in the Directory box and the name of the folder in the Name box. Click the OK button when you are ready to scan your machine for your music.
You will notice a bar grow in the lower mid-section of the program as your music is being located.
When the process completes, you'll notice information in every section except for the Playlist.
You can locate an artist or album and drag it into the Playlist area. You will also notice that Sayonara has tabbed playlists.
You'll notice the album art above your playlist. You can rate the song that's playing by click on the appropriate stars beneath the album art. You'll see the basic controls above your playlist. You have a Back button, Play/Pause button, Forward button, and Stop button. You can click on the speaker icon to mute your music and drag the orange bar to adjust your volume.
You'll notice a round brown and orange icon in your panel when Sayonara is open.
If you prefer to see covers or cover art then click on the Library menu and click on Show Covers.
In the top middle pane is a drop-down menu that allows you to change your library. You can select New, Music, Directories, SomaFM, and Soundcloud. (SomaFM provides you with online streaming content focusing on non-mainstream music. Soundcloud is an online audio distribution platform to help promote artists, bands, podcasters, and creators of music and audio.)
Preferences...
You can access the settings or preferences by clicking on the File menu and then Preferences...

Here's quick look through the sections of the Preferences dialog box of Sayonara. This program is packed full of features and it's not bloated.
The Application tab allows you to control the behavior of Sayonara. By default the program will place an icon in your system tray and display notifications. You can have the program to start in the system tray instead of displaying the program and you can select to close to the system tray instead of closing the program.
The User Interface tab allows you to change the appearance of the program. You can turn off using Dark Mode, Show large cover, and Fading cover under the General tab. You change change the program's fonts and font sizes under the Fonts tab. You can change icons within the program under the Icons tab.
The Playlist tab allows you to control the Behavior and Look of your playlist. Under the Behavior tab, you can select a particular album and/or song to start playing when you open the program.
Under the Look tab, you can select the way you want your song information displayed.
The Audio tab allows you to control the whether you want to use Pulseaudio or Alsa or let the program do it Automatic. (PulseAudio mixes the audio from all your different applications and sends them to ALSA. Using just ALSA, you need a program called dmix to mix multiple applications. Without a program like dmix, ALSA can only play an audio stream from one application at a time.)
The Stream recorder tab allows you to record streaming audio and place the file into a folder of your choice.
Playlist
The Playlist area displays a temporary playlist and/or saved playlist. A saved playlist will be saved to your machine using a specific name and a temporary playlist is not saved to your system and will display New on the tab. You can right-click a tab to give you access to the following commands: Open file..., Open directory..., Rename..., Save as..., Save to file, Clear, and Preferences: Playlist.

It's easy to rename your tabs. Just right-click on your tab and then click the Rename... command.
A small Rename dialog box will appear to allow you to change the tab name. After you change the name of the tab click the OK button.
You'll notice the tab name has changed. This is a great feature for loading different songs from a variety of albums and saving your playlist. Also, creating a tag name for albums makes it easy to recognize when you have several playlists open.
Under the playlist area is six buttons. They perform the following functions:
1. Repeat 1 - If you select a song from your playlist and click this button the song will repeat or play over-and over.
2. Repeat All - This will repeat all the tracks in your playlist.
3. Shuffle - This will play all the songs in your playlist in a random order.
4. Dynamic Playback - This feature will automatically add new tracks from artists similar to those in the playlist to the active playlist.
5. Append - This feature allows you to add songs to your current playlist.
6. Gapless Playback - This feature allows the uninterrupted playback of consecutive audio tracks.

The Gapless playback and Crossfader is not turned on by default. Click the Gapless playback button and select Gapless playback or Crossfader. Gapless playback will play back-to-back uninterrupted audio tracks. Crossfader will create a gradual descrease at the end of one song and then create a gradual increase in the next song in your song list. You can adjust the amount of fade time by adjusting the orange slider.

You can enable the Audio Converter by clicking on the View menu and then on Audio Converter. You can convert an audio file into an Ogg Vorbis, MP3 (CBR) (Constant Bit Rate), and MP3 (VBR) (Variable Bit Rate). By default Soyonara will only convert Flac and Wav file formats to Ogg or Mp3 file formats. .
You can click on the View menu and uncheck Show Library to make your player appear smaller or in compact view. This is great to use for small monitors.
You can uncheck Show large cover in the View menu to make the player even smaller.
You can turn off Dark Mode via the View menu.
When you turn off Dark Mode the theme of your system will be applied to Sayonara. I prefer to use the Adwaita Dark theme over the Ambiant MATE Dark.
You can right-click on a song and click on Lyrics to display the lyrics or words that make up the song.
An Info/Edit dialog box will pop-up with the Lyrics to the selected song. You can click the Edit tab to edit the metadata of the song.
You can change the Source if it's unable to find the Lyrics to your song. You have nine different choices of online sites to find the Lyrics to your music.
If you're a Linux user and looking for a music player, then give Sayonara a try. It's a very powerful music player that doesn't use a lot of resources.
