How-To Fix MATE Weather Applet
The MATE Weather Applet has been working intermittently for the past couple weeks, but it hasn't worked at all for the past few days. If you experience this same issue then follow the steps below to fix the problem.
Make sure that the weather applet settings hasn't changed before you make any changes to your system.
Click on the clock in your panel to produce a drop-down menu.

Next, click the Edit button to bring up the Clock Preferences dialog box. Click the General tab to make it active and make sure you have a check next to Show weather and Show temperature. Then click the Close button.
Open your Terminal and Enter the following:
sudo sed -i 's|https://www.aviationweather.gov/adds/dataserver_current/httpparam|https://www.aviationweather.gov/adds/dataserver1_3/httpparam\x0\x0\x0\x0\x0|' /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libmateweather.so.1
Press the Enter key
Enter your password and press Enter
sudo sed -i 's|https://www.aviationweather.gov/adds/dataserver_current/httpparam|https://www.aviationweather.gov/adds/dataserver1_3/httpparam\x0\x0\x0\x0\x0|' /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libmateweather.so.1
Press the Enter key
Enter your password and press Enter
Now reboot your system or log out and then back into the MATE desktop. The MATE Weather Applet should be working again.
The patch you performed should fix the libmateweather library. However, if you ever need to undo or revert the patch then open your Terminal and enter the following: sudo apt-get install --reinstall libmateweather1
