Plex Live TV
Plex Live TV allows you to watch a large collection of free live TV channels anywhere in the world, at any time. You don't need an internal TV tuner or antenna to watch streaming TV. The streaming channels are ad-supported like over the air television.
There's a large variety of genres or categories and a channel guide that you can personalize. The Plex Live TV is part of the Plex player app that can be installed on the following devices: Amazon Fire TV, Android mobile, Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, iOS, macOS (desktop), PlayStation, Plex Web App, Roku, Smart TVs (LG 4K/UHD [webOS 3.0+], Samsung 2016+ UHD, VIZIO SmartCast), Windows (desktop), and Xbox. The image below is an example of using the Plex Web App using a web browser and visiting: https://app.plex.tv/desktop.
If you use Linux as your operating system then you can customize the Plex Web App to look like a native installed app on your system. Compare the image above with the image below. They both are using the Vivaldi browser; however, the image below was from a link added in my menu.
Adding it to your menu makes it look like an actual application installed. To add it to your menu you'll need to open your Control Center and click on Main Menu under the Look and Feel section.
A Main Menu dialog box should appear on your screen. Select a menu on the left. I created an Entertainment menu to keep my entertainment links and applications organized. After you select the menu click on the + New Item button on the right.
You will see a Create Launcher dialog box appear on your screen. Enter the following information:
- Type: Application
- Name: Plex
- Command: vivaldi --app=https://app.plex.tv/desktop
- Comment: Plex Streaming Media Service
You should now see Plex under the Items section. You can click the Move Up or Move Down buttons to move the icon up or down in that section. Click the Close button when you are finished.
You should now see Plex in your folder.
Clicking on the Plex icon in the menu will open the website, but it will display a minimal amount of your browser making it look more like an installed application on your system. It will open to the Home screen where it will display a variety of topics to select from. On the left you can change to Movies & Shows, Live TV, Web Shows, Podcasts, and Music (On TIDAL). If you have the Plex Media Server installed, you will see additional topics or categories. To watch live streaming TV click on Live TV on the left.
You will see Plex's Electronic Program Guide (EPG) that will list 160 (at the time of creating this webpage) channels and a description of what is playing on those channels.
Clicking once on a description will create a drop-down with a small icon, a more detailed description, how long the program has left, and a WATCH NOW button.
Clicking the WATCH NOW button will play the selected channel.
You have a wide variety of free streaming channels to choose from. Below is from the Grid Iron Outdoors channel.
It has several streaming channels that show movies. Below is an image from The Architect (2016).
Below is an image fro The Honor List (2018) playing on the Movie Sphere channel.
You can watch old classic TV shows like Big Foot on the Run:Time channel.
