How-To Change Preferred Applications
Ubuntu MATE comes with a lot of great software by default; however, you are not restricted to always using the software they have pre-installed. You can change your default web browser, mail reader, image viewer, mulitmedia player, video player, text editor, Terminal emulator, file manager, document viewer, word processor, spreadsheet editor, visual, and mobilty software all in the Preferred Applications dialog box.
I prefer using Google Chrome over the Firefox Web Browser. I still have Firefox installed on my computer, so that I can check out the websites I create in Firefox. I have a variety of web browsers installed, but Chrome is my main or new default browser.

You can make these changes by clicking on the System menu, highlight Preferences, Personal, and click on Preferred Applications.
You can also click on the System menu and then click on Control Center. The Control Center is like the Control Panel in MS Windows. Once the Control Center dialog box appears, scroll down to the Personal section and then click on Preferred Applications.
The second tab in the Preferred Applications dialog box allows you to change your Multimedia applications. I like the Eye of MATE Image Viewer as the default image viewer and VLC media player as my default video player; however, I prefer to use Audacious as my audio player.
The next tab allows you to change some of the System applications. I like using the MATE Terminal and Caja File Manager, but I prefer to use gedit Text Editor over the Pluma teext editor.
The next tab allows you to change your default Office applications. I prefer to use WPS Writer and WPS Spreadsheets over LibreOffice.
I don't have any applications selected to use in the Accessibility section.
