How-To Remove the Collection Menu
If you've upgraded your MATE from 1.24 to 1.26 or installed a version of Ubuntu MATE that contains MATE version 1.26 then you've probably noticed a new menu or sub-menu called Collection. You can't edit this new menu using Mozo or the Main Menu editor.
This menu contains icons to applications pinned to the panel, so it's not needed or necessary to have in the menu.
To remove the Collection menu open your Terminal and enter the following (copy and paste the entire code):
mkdir -p /home/$USER/.local/share/desktop-directories/
cat <<EOF > /home/$USER/.local/share/desktop-directories/mate-collection.directory
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Collection
Comment=The most frequently used shortcuts
Icon=starred
Type=Directory
NoDisplay=true
EOF
Now look in your menu. If it is still present then reboot your system.
mkdir -p /home/$USER/.local/share/desktop-directories/
cat <<EOF > /home/$USER/.local/share/desktop-directories/mate-collection.directory
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Collection
Comment=The most frequently used shortcuts
Icon=starred
Type=Directory
NoDisplay=true
EOF
Now look in your menu. If it is still present then reboot your system.
Now you can enjoy the new features of using MATE version 1.26 without having the Collection menu on your system.
