Once you install the program it will take a few minutes to several minutes, depending on how fast your system is, to open the program. It will have to configure wine on your system. So be patient the first time you open the program.
The first time foobar2000 opens, you'll be greeted to a Quick Appearance Setup dialog box. This dialog box allows you to select your main layout, colors, and playlist layout.
You can make changes within the dialog box and immediately see the changes to your program. Click the OK button when you have selected your favorite settings.
Since the program is installed via Wine, it will not use your system theme. It will also take longer to load compared to the native linux music players; however, if you used foobar2000 on Windows and switched to Linux you'll be in your comfort zone using the same program you used before. Once the program loads, it works great.
If you want to customize or change your layout then click on the View menu, highlight Layout and click on Enable layout editing mode. Don't forget to uncheck this setting when you finish making changes.
A small Layout Editing Mode dialog box will appear, unless you check Don't show this again, to let you know that right-clicking will change your User Interface (UI) Elements.
You can change your Playlist View and completely Replace UI Element... You cut out elements via the Cut UI Element command or you can copy an element via the Copy UI Element command. You can add or remove items within your Colums or Groups.
You can see in my example below that I added a Codec, Bitrate, and File size colum in my Playlist section.
The player looks nice and sounds great.
You can change the Spectrogram Colors by right-clicking in that area and selecting Colors...
Here's a look through the menus.
You can download foobar2000 for other platforms from the developers website. Below is an image from foorbar2000 installed on Windows 10.
