- Imagine-Setup-x.y.z.exe - Windows
- Imagine-x.y.z.dmg - macOS
- Imagine-0.4.1-x.y.z.AppImage - Linux
At the time of creating this webpage, I'm using Ubuntu MATE 22.04 LTS (Linux) so I downloaded the Imagine-0.6.1.AppImage file.
Install it with command line:
# make executable
chmod a+x Imagine-0.6.1.AppImage
# install and run
./Imagine-x.y.z-x86_64.AppImage
or follow the illustrated steps below:
# make executable
chmod a+x Imagine-0.6.1.AppImage
# install and run
./Imagine-x.y.z-x86_64.AppImage
or follow the illustrated steps below:
After the download completed, I located it in my Downloads folder.
Right-click on the file and select Properties.
When the Properties dialog box opens, click on the Permissions tab.
Place a check in the box next to, Allow executing file as program. Then click the Close button.
I like to organize my AppImages by moving them into an AppImages folder.
I also like adding them to the appropriate section in my menus. I like using Ubuntu MATE's Main Menu (mozo) command to add the program to my Graphics sub-menu. When the Main Menu appears, I click on Graphics in the left column and then click on +New Item button on the right.
When the Create Launcher dialog box appears, enter the following information.
Type: Application
Name: Imagine
Command: "/home/tommy/AppImages/Imagine-0.6.1.AppImage" %U (Enter your path)
Comment: Cross-platform app for compression of PNG and JPEG files
You can use the image at the bottom of this page as your thumbnail image or icon.

You can use the image at the bottom of this page as your thumbnail image or icon.
You can use the Move Up button to place the program in alphabetical order in your Items list. Click the Close button when you finish.
You should now see Imagine in your Graphics menu.
Clicking on Imagine should start the program. You can click the Settings button in the upper right corner to make some changes or customize your settings. Click the Apply now button to save your changes.
You can drag your image(s) into the program or click the Add button and select them from their folder.
I clicked the Add button and selected the images from a folder. Then I clicked the Open button.
As you can see in the image below, my four images loaded in the program. You then have the choice to change the individual Quality percentage below each image. You can select an extension (JPG) for your compressed files and next to that is the new size/original size of image. You can see a huge difference in size.
Click the drop-down menu under the Save button to display three options: Save and overwrite, Save with new name auto, and Export to. Since I wanted the new files in a different folder, I selected the Export to command.
Then I selected the folder to place the smaller images in.
Eventually, your smaller images will be placed in your selected folder.
Below is properties of the first image in the original folder. Notice the size of image09.jpg is 1.9 MB.
Below is properties of the first image in the Shrunken folder. Notice the size of image09.jpg is 827.0 kB.
Each new compressed image is a lot smaller without much difference in image quality. This is great for people who send a lot of images to their friends or for people who design webpages. It won't take as long to send or receive smaller file sizes from friends and webpages will load much faster using smaller images.
If you're looking for a program to reduce or compress your images or photos, then I highly recommend that you try Imagine.
I Imagine it will make you happy. :-)
