How-To Reduce Your Shutdown Time
If you would like to reduce the amount of time it takes for your Ubuntu/Ubuntu MATE system to turn off, then follow the steps below.
Open your Terminal and enter the following: (You can replace gedit with your favorite text editor.)
sudo gedit /etc/systemd/system.conf
Then press the Enter or Return key and type in your password.
Open your Terminal and enter the following: (You can replace gedit with your favorite text editor.)
sudo gedit /etc/systemd/system.conf
Then press the Enter or Return key and type in your password.
When the system.conf file loads, locate #DefaultTimeoutStopSec=90s.
Delete the # symbol and change 90 to 30 and then click the Save button.
Now close the system.conf file and reboot your system to load the changes.
This will create a maximum time 30 seconds for your computer to shutdown compared to the default time 90 seconds. It is recommended that you don't go below 30 seconds to give your computer enough time to quit all applications and flush the cache. If the time is set to low a value, it could cause programs not to shutdown properly and corrupt your programs or files. This could lead to error messages during boot time.
I hope this helped you speedup your turn off time or shutdown time.
