Gnome MPV
Gnome MPV is a very powerful multimedia player based on MPlayer. It doesn't use up a lot of your computer's resources and it does a wonderful job of playing back video files.
It may not have all the extra features that VLC has, but it does a great job with the features that it does have. If you are looking for a new multimedia player for your computer, give Gnome MPV a try. |
How to Install Gnome MPV:
1. Open the Terminal (Shortcut: Ctrl + Alt + T)
2. Type the following command to add the PPA: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xuzhen666/gnome-mpv
3. Press Enter or Return and type in your password
4. Type the following command: sudo apt-get update
5. Press Enter or Return
6. Type the following command: sudo apt-get install gnome-mpv
7. Press Enter or Return
How to Uninstall Gnome MPV:
1. Open the Terminal (Shortcut: Ctrl + Alt + T)
2. Type the following command: sudo apt-get remove --autoremove gnome-mpv

You can open Gnome MPV by clicking on the Applications menu, Sound & Video, and then click on Gnome MPV.
Clicking the blue icon in the upper left corner creates a drop-down menu with the options of New Window, Preferences, Keyboard Shortcuts, About, and Quit.
If you click on the Preferences option it will bring up a Preferences dialog box. You can make some interface and configuration changes. You can click the Plugins tab to manage your installed plugins.

Clicking the green plus icon in the upper left corner creates a drop-down menu with the options of Open and Open Location. These options allow you to locate and open a video file.
Clicking the white square box icon in the upper right corner allows you to Toggle Fullscreen. Click this icon once to go into full screen mode and if you click it again it goes back to the previous size.
Clicking the hamburger menu in the upper right corner creates a drop-down menu with the options of Toggle Controls, Toggle Playlist, Save Playlist, Video Track, Audio Track, and Subtitle Track.
If a video was playing it would also display the options Normal Size, Double Size, and Half Size.
Across the bottom of Gnome MPV you have several buttons to control your video. In the lower left you have the Rewind button, then the Play button, then the Stop button, and then you have the Forward button. Then you have your progress bar. You can drag the indicator to a desired location within a video. Then you have the Elapsed Time/Total Time, next to the Volume button.
Gnome MPV has minimalistic look, but it's packed full of features.
Gnome MPV has a very clear image and great sound quality.
