How-To Upgrade LibreOffice
When you install Ubuntu MATE, it comes with LibreOffice. After doing updates and upgrades via the Software Updater, you'll notice that LibreOffice has version 6.0.3.2 installed. If you would like to upgrade to the newest stable version of LibreOffice then you'll need to add a new PPA to your system. A PPA is a Personal Package Archives that allows you to upgrade or update the software on your system with unsupported packages. Be careful of adding random PPA's to your computer without doing proper research to ensure that you are not installing risky software.
How to Upgrade LibreOffice:
1. Open the Terminal (Shortcut: Ctrl + Alt + T)
2. Type the following command to add the PPA: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa
3. Type the following command: sudo apt-get update
4. Press Enter or Return and type in your password
5. Press Enter when prompted
6. Type the following command: sudo apt-get upgrade
7. Type Y and press Enter or Return
After a few minutes your LibreOffice will be upgraded to the newest stable version. It will contain the newest features and improvements.

After the upgrade completes, close the Terminal. If you open LibreOffice Writer or any of the other LibreOffice packages and then click the Help menu, and then About LibreOffice a dialog box will appear. In that dialog box you will notice the version of LibreOffice on your system. As you can see below that my LibreOffice went from Version 6.0.3.2 to Version 6.0.5.2.
For more information on the newest version, please check out the documentation on the software website.
