You can access the program in your menu after you get the program installed. I am using Ubuntu MATE 18.04.4 LTS with the traditional menu, so I access it by clicking on the Applications menu, highlight Sound & Video, and then click on DeaDBeeF.
Once you open the program you will see a simple user interface.
You can add a file or song by clicking on the File menu and click on the Add file(s) command or you can add a folder or albums by clicking on Add folder(s).
Select the drive on your left and then the folder where your music albums are located and then click the Open button.
It will take a while to load all your albums into the player. Once it finishes, you can scroll through your albums and songs.
You can sort your songs by clicking on the Edit menu and highlight Sort by and then choose between Title, Track number, Album, Artist, Date, Random, and Custom.
You can add a column by right-click in the column area and then click on Add column command.
An Add column dialog box will appear to allow you to customize the new column you want to add. You can create a Title for your new column, select the Type and Format of your new column, and the Alignment and Text color of the column.
Clicking the drop-down arrow to the right of Type will let you select from a variety of column types.
I selected Bitrate in the drop-down menu and it immediately added a new Bitrate column.
DeaDBeeF is highly customizable. I added Spectrum Bar Graph and Album Art next to my Playlist.
Here's how I customized DeaDBeeF to look like the image above. I first clicked the View menu and then checked the box next to Design mode. This allows you to change the look or layout of your player.
Next I right-clicked in an area of the player that I wanted to change or customize. I wanted to split the blue section into two sections so I selected the option Splitter (left and right).
I then had two sections to modify instead of one large area.
Next, I right-clicked in one of the areas and highlighted Insert... and then selected the option Playlist with tabs.
I now have my Playlist in a smaller section instead of one large section.
Next, I right-clicked in the other blank area and highlighted Insert... and then selected Splitter (top and bottom).
I now have two smaller areas to work with.
Then I righ-clicked in the lower left box and highlighted Replace with... command and then I selected Album art display.
The Album art will be placed into that section. We can resize it later.
Then I right-clicked the empty area and highlighted Insert... and then I selected Spectrum.
The Spectrum Bar Graph now filled the empty area. When I finished adding items to my player I clicked on the View menu and unchecked Design mode.
I then grabbed the seperator bars between the sections and drug them to resize them and then I drug the outside edges to resize the entire player.
When you change Artist or Album you'll notice your Album art also changes.
You are in control of how your music player looks.
DeaDBeeF has a title bar at the top that displays the current song being played. Then you'll see a Menu bar that contains the File, Edit, View, Playback, and Help menus. Below the menu you'll see the Playback controls: Stop, Play, Pause, Previous, and Next buttons. To the right of the buttons you'll see a music Seek bar and Volume control.
You can see additional screenshots from the DeaDBeeF - Screenshots webpage.
Here's a quick look through the menus.
You can enable the program's equalizer by clicking on the View menu and then click on Equalizer. You'll see a small box next to Enable that you can click on to turn on or enable the equalizer.
You can now make adjustments to change your sound quality.
If you no longer won't to see the equalizer then click on the View menu and uncheck Equalizer. This does not turn off the equalizer, it just removes it from view. You need to uncheck the Enable check box to turn off the equalizer.
DeaDBeeF is a nice little music player that is highly customizable and it does a great job playing a variety of audio file formats.
