Bomi
bomi is a multimedia player which is easy to use, but it has a lot of powerful features. If you were a MS Windows user and used PotPlayer multimedia player, then you will feel very comfortable using bomi. They have a similar look and feel and they both are very powerful.
bomi is very configurable and it has a user-friendly interface. You can customize the way it looks and the way it operates. It looks simple; however, don't let that look of simplicity fool you. |

If you installed bomi using the old PPA it will cause you to get an error when you run the Software Updater.

Enter your password and click on the Authenticate button.
Click on the Close button to close the Software & Updates dialog box.
Then click the Reload button to update your PPAs.
An Updating cache dialog box will appear as your PPAs are being updated. When the process ends, you'll be able to update your software without getting that annoying message, "Failed to download repository information"
You can open bomi by clicking on the Applications menu, Sound & Video, and then click on bomi.
When bomi loads, it places an icon in your system tray.
By default, bomi runs or hides in the background when you close the program. You can disable or turn that feature off to free up resources when your not using the program. Right-click on the bomi window and highlight the Tools menu and then click on the Preferences option.
When the Preferences dialog box appears, click on Application under the General section. Then look on the right side for the System tray section. Click on the checkbox to the left of "Hide the window rather than quit when closed" option. This will remove the check.
Next click the OK button.
I opened up one of the videos I had in my Videos folder. It was very clear and it had great sound quality. It didn't have bulky buttons on the screen while the video played in a small window.
You can hover your mouse pointer over the bottom of the video to bring up interactive features. When bomi is in fullscreen mode, you don't see any buttons or progress bars unless you move your mouse pointer over the video near the bottom of the video.
Working with Subtitles:
When you use Bomi with subtitles, you'll notice that the subtitles are displayed on the letterbox rather than in the video.

You can change it's position by righ-clicking on the video and high-light Subtitle, then Position and click on Display in Video.
The text will move from the letterbox area to display within the video.
You can change the alignment of the subtitles from the top to place them at the botton of the video by righ-clicking on the video and high-light Subtitle, then Alignment and click on Bottom.
The subtitles will move from the top of the video to the bottom.
Now you can watch the video with the subtitles in your preferred location.
If you hold down the shift key while pressing the L key, you'll increase the size of your subtitles. (Shift+L)
If you hold down the shift key while pressing the K key, you'll decrease the size of your subtitles. (Shift+K)
bomi has a lot of useful features. I highly recommend that you try it. I think you'll enjoy using it.
Take care!
